Pinus densiflora ‘Umbraculifera’ (Japanese Red Pine)

Zone: 3-7
Height: 10-20' x 15-25'
Light Needs: Full Sun

A slow growing dwarf conifer with an umbrella like crown and a broad, rounded shape. Often multi-trunked at the base with branches spreading horizontally in an irregular, but graceful habit with orange-red bark that exfoliates with age, bright green needles, and an abundant growth of small seed cones. Grows best in average, medium moisture in well-drained soils. Tolerates some afternoon shade in hot climates. Ideally used in foundations, small areas around the home, and as a bonsai. Deer tolerant.
